Silent Auction November 8, 2003 at the Dossin Museum

The Great Lakes Maritime Institute's Silent Auction will take place at the Dossin Great Lakes Museum from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 pm on Saturday November 8, 2003. This auction will benefit the Webcam Project and other educational uses of our web casting abilities.

  1 - Porthole from the S.S. South American recovered in 1992 from the Baltimore shipyard where the vessel was being broken up. The brass and glass porthole is unique for it was in the passenger cabins and it pivots in the center. It has been cleaned, but not polished. High Bid $1,000.

 


Hull and rivets
  2 - Porthole and piece of riveted hull from the S.S. South American recovered in 1992 from the Baltimore shipyard where the vessel was being broken up. The glass is gone, it is still attached to the hull plating and is slightly warped. This porthole was from the crew area in the lower area of the vessel. It swings on one hinge and needs to be restored.

Includes section of South American's actual hull and rivets High Bid  $200.
 


  3 - 3A, 3B, 3C – S.S. South American collectors package includes 6 books of matches from the Georgian Bay Line, 12 On Board S.S. South American small envelopes, and 12 passenger registration tickets for a trip on the South in the 1960’s. Three packets A, B, C High Bids

  5 - A UNIQUE ARTIFACT FROM THE STORM OF 1913 from a vessel that was lost with all hands on November 9, 1913 – THIS IS THE 90TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE STORM OF 1913! Two Bottles of Dewars Scotch recovered from the wreck of the Canadian steamer REGINA under a permit issued by the State of Michigan. The artifacts are guaranteed authentic and actually spent more than 70 years on the bottom of Lake Huron. The bottles will be sold as a pair. The label at the top is under wax. The one bottle is clear and the other is cloudy due to the fact that the cork has dislodged and is on the bottom of the bottle, coloring the scotch. These cannot be shipped due to their frail nature. Contents are original as they were sealed when they were recovered as part of the cargo of the S.S. REGINA! Also included are 2 – 8 x 10 black and white photographs of the S.S. REGINA and a certificate of authenticity. High Bid $220
